As the school summer holidays have started, I would like to wish all the readers of The Bromsgrove Standard a relaxing and enjoyable summer.
A fortnight ago, I was delighted to hold my fifth MP Pensioners Fair at Parkside Hall and library.
This year saw a record turnout of constituents, despite the poor weather conditions, showcasing the great community spirit we have here in Bromsgrove district.
I would like to thank all attendees, exhibitors, and especially my sponsors – Hamberley Care Homes, Phoenix Group, CareForce, and Bromsgrove Golf Centre- for making the event a resounding success once again.
In Parliament I have been continuing my work on suicide prevention and had the opportunity to meet the 3 Dads Walking Group and PAPYRUS who do great work on this issue.
Every 90 minutes someone in the United Kingdom takes their own life, with suicide now the biggest killer of men under 50 and women under 35.
I have been personally affected by this issue as have many people across Bromsgrove and the United Kingdom.
As Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, suicide prevention was one of my major priorities and in June 2022 I committed the Government to announcing a comprehensive new suicide prevention strategy for England.
At the final Prime Ministers’ Questions before recess, I was able to ask the Prime Minister for an update on the Government’s plan on suicide prevention.
I welcome the commitment from the Prime Minister, who assured me the Government’s plan for suicide prevention will be released in the coming months.
As ever, if any of my constituents need any support or assistance on this issue or any other matter, please contact me at sajid.javid.mp@parliament.uk
